Nea Optiki Group: 20 Years of Greek Handmade Eyewear

For two decades, Nea Optiki Group has been synonymous with craftsmanship and contemporary design. Operating the only handmade eyewear factory in Greece, under the name Greek Handmade Frames (GHF), Nea Optiki Group combines creation with cutting-edge innovation. Reviving handmade production, it ensures that each pair of eyewear reflects the art of the past and the innovation of the future.

Each design takes shape thanks to a team of in-house designers who draw inspiration from the rich canvas of patterns, architecture, art, and color. By creating authentic designs that capture the essence of Greek creation and design, the in-house designers leave an indelible mark on the Greek optical industry today.

Crafted from high-quality, eco-friendly Italian Mazzucchelli acetate and finished with a secret recipe using pure materials from the Greek land, all of Nea Optiki Group’s handcrafted eyewear reflects the company’s commitment to quality and sustainability, placing these values above mass production.

El Greco was the first brand of the Nea Optiki Group, aiming to introduce Greek handmade eyewear to a wider audience. Known for their modern design and clean lines, El Greco soon became popular, especially standing out in the Spanish market. Their success paved the way for Greek handmade eyewear and gave Nea Optiki Group the impetus for more creative steps.

In 2015, Urban Owl was introduced as a new, dynamic brand, born from a passion for eyewear and a dedication to creating designs that resonate with the rhythm of city life. Combining retro and modern elements, each pair tells a story of different individuals converging, chasing their urban dreams. What started as a simple crowdfunding campaign quickly gained ground in the market, pushing the brand to create high quality handcrafted eyewear, designed and made by hand. Embracing the power of synergy and artistic expression, Urban Owl often co-creates with Greek designers and ethical brands, fostering a vibrant community of unity and creativity.

The collaboration with the Greek luxury lifestyle brand Zeus+Δione in 2016 marked an important milestone for Nea Optiki Group. Zeus+Δione Eyewear are proof that the creative air of handmade art also blows in contemporary fashion, harmoniously converging modernity and tradition, two elements that perfectly express the brand’s authentic DNA. This fruitful collaboration was also featured in the popular Netflix series Emily in Paris and was sealed with an exclusive collection that gave traditional Greek eyewear design the value it deserves.

In addition to Greek handmade eyewear, Nea Optiki Group hosts in its portfolio a number of other distinct brands, among them Tailor Made, Hoffman, Monte Napoleone, and Riska, each of which enriches the domestic and international optical industry with unique designs.

As Nea Optiki Group celebrates its first twenty years in 2024, it continues to expand its portfolio with innovative brands that take Greek eyewear even higher. The latest addition to the Group is Native Vision®, the No1 Greek brand of ophthalmic lenses for Mediterranean living conditions. With a focus on innovation and customer satisfaction, Native Vision® creates a new experience in the optical industry, focusing on long-term eye health and introducing cutting-edge technologies to the Greek public for the first time, such as the use of a VR tool to create 100% personalized lenses.

Under the leadership of the second generation of the Destounis family, Nea Optiki Group continues to thrive with successful partnerships both in the domestic and international markets and exclusivity in brands such as Woodys, Visionario, and Le Parc.

As the Nea Optiki Group looks to the future, it remains committed to highlighting handmade creation and continues to set new goals for the future of Greek eyewear, paving the way for chapters yet to be written,
